Welcome to Shaffer Memorial Park in Chillicothe, Missouri |
|
June Shaffer Memorial Park is located
in the southeast section of the city. It is nearly 8 acres in size and was
purchased in 1976. Construction began a short time later, creating a
baseball facility that got a sizeable facelift in 2002 and improvements have
continued annually since that time.The
facility also features one pavilion and two playgrounds. With the renovation to the baseball diamond, Shaffer Park is the home of the Chillicothe Mudcats, a collegiate-aged summer wood bat baseball team that competes in the MINK League. The facility is also the location where the Chillicothe High School baseball teams host their games in the spring. American Legion baseball action comes to Shaffer Memorial Park during the summer months as well. Stadium style seating is available from dugout to dugout as the facility can comfortably seat 800 people. Adjacent to the ballfield is a full concession stand, a netted playground area and a special entryway. Improvements have been completed through the cooperation of several groups, including Grand River Entertainment, the Chillicothe Development Corporation, donated work by several local contractors, and Pepsi Bottling, who recently donated a new scoreboard. The Parks and Recreation Department thanks all of these individuals, businesses and organizations for their assistance in creating an outstanding baseball atmosphere in Chillicothe. |
